Orthodontists diagnose and treat problems with the position, alignment, and spacing of the teeth, as well as related irregularities in the face and the jaw. Some problems that orthodontists treat may help prevent future injury or damage to misaligned teeth. For the long term health of a tooth, it should be in a proper alignment in relation to the teeth around it. Orthodontists evaluate the relationship between the teeth and jaw and make adjustments as needed. Sometimes, the goal is both cosmetic and functional. The change in appearance may greatly enhance the patient’s view of him or herself, and eagerness to socialize, smile, and laugh around others!
